Vintage Hardy Bros. “The Fairchild” Palakona Split-Cane / Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod
Offered is a vintage Hardy Bros. The Fairchild Palakona split-cane fly rod, made in England and featuring classic Hardy construction and hardware.
The handwritten script above the grip reads:
“The Trade Mark”
This is a traditional 3-piece, 2-tip configuration, commonly described by bamboo rod collectors as a 3/2 rod.

The rod presents very attractively for its age, with strong cane color and much of the original-style wrapping still present.
Important Condition Notes
One of the two tip sections is shorter than the other. The history of the shorter tip is unknown, so it is being disclosed as possibly shortened or previously repaired.
The cork grip shows significant age-related wear, staining and cracking, including a noticeable open crack/void near the reel-seat end.
Ferrules and metal hardware show scratches, oxidation and finish wear consistent with age.
The agate-lined stripping guide appears intact.
Some wraps and varnish areas show age and may reflect older maintenance or touch-up. Because of this, the rod is not being represented as completely untouched or fully original in every component.
No major bamboo break or significant delamination has been observed during visual inspection, but the rod has not been professionally restored or evaluated by a bamboo-rod specialist.
