Exceptional miniature Italian horse-drawn carriage crafted in .800 silver with vivid hand-applied polychrome enamel decoration.The form and elaborate decoration are consistent with the traditional Carretto Siciliano (Sicilian cart) tradition, interpreted here on an extraordinarily small scale.The piece bears an “800” silver fineness mark and an additional maker/registration mark that appears to read S/★43 AR. Italian silversmith registry information associates ★43 AR with Corrado Monticini of Arezzo, with the registration recorded during the 1962–1971 period. Because the mark is extremely small and partially obscured by the construction of the carriage, attribution is presented conservatively rather than as an absolute identification.Approximate measurements:• Length: 2 3/8”

Features include a sculpted horse, extremely fine wire reins and harness elements, slender openwork shafts, large radial-spoke wheels, colorful red, yellow and green/teal enamel, decorated carriage panels and an extensively worked interior.Of particular interest is the underside of the carriage, which is not simply unfinished construction. It contains miniature applied/relief decoration, including what appear to be human figures, star-like motifs and additional tiny elements. These details are difficult to interpret conclusively because of their extremely small scale, but photographs are included so collectors can examine them closely.Articulated / movable elements:

Ask to see video that demonstrates movement of the horse and wheels, allowing the construction and articulation to be seen more clearly than in still photographs alone.The reins appear to have originally passed through or nearer the horse’s bridle/mouth area and at some point were repositioned or tied around the neck area. The enamel remains exceptionally colorful.
