Up for sale is an exquisite, grand-scale vintage European Jacquard damask textile, perfectly proportioned as a luxury table runner, credenza scarf, or bed throw. Measuring an impressive 100 inches long by 46 inches wide, this statement piece features a heavyweight, reversible weave with a luxurious, light-catching shimmer reminiscent of mid-century Italian San Leucio silk/rayon revivals.The design showcases an intricate Baroque and Italian Renaissance-inspired medallion motif, complete with ornate floral urns, scrolled acanthus leaves, and fluid botanical swags in a sophisticated palette of dusty rose, peach, and antique gold.
This piece features an asymmetrical border design meant for dramatic, tiered staging. One long edge is finished with a highly elaborate, multi-tiered handmade macramé knotted tassel fringe. This deep lattice fringe was historically designed to hang down the front face of a mantle, piano, sideboard, or credenza, serving as a focal centerpiece while the body of the textile drapes elegantly across the surface.
This textile is in wonderful structural condition for its age. True to vintage weaving techniques, there are isolated thread skips and character-rich weave variations. There are a few tiny, darkened spots/aging marks (pictured in close-ups) which do not affect the structural integrity or overall stunning display value of the piece.
