This is an antique Japanese fan shaped trinket or treasure box. It features exquisite mother of pearl inlaid decorative leaves and exotic phoenix birds. It also has gold and silver lacquer decoration to mimic metal where the hinge structure is. These multi teared boxes were crafted for holding incense, keepsakes and personal treasures like jewelry. The fan shaped compartments swing out revealing velvet lined drawers. The urushi black lacquered wood has a metal handle on the top. It is in very good condition with only slight wear.
Condition: excellent for age and normal wear.
