Up for sale is a beautiful vintage Japanese porcelain octagonal serving tray/deep bowl crafted by the renowned Shibata Pottery (柴田陶器) in the Arita region of Japan. This piece dates back to the mid-to-late 20th century (circa 1970s–1980s) and features an exceptionally vibrant, colorful export design.
Design & Features:
- Central Imagery: Features a striking, colorful Hō-ō (Japanese Phoenix / Paradise Bird) perched elegantly among blooming pink and yellow peonies, symbolizing prosperity and grace.
- Borders & Patterning: The inner well is framed by a traditional teal-green and gold cloud scroll pattern. The wide, flared octagonal rim features alternating panels of dense floral sprays and geometric border designs.
- Form: Includes two convenient, built-in integrated slot handles and sits on a slightly raised footed base.
- Markings: The bottom features the authentic, stamped red square hallmark seal for Shibata Pottery along with \"JAPAN\".
