Vintage Japanese Rootwood Okimono – Three Carved Birds
Unusual vintage Japanese rootwood okimono featuring three stylized hand-carved wooden birds perched above a naturally formed rootwood base.
The sculpture makes striking use of the root's organic form, incorporating its natural twists, knots, hollows, contrasting colors and rugged textures into the composition. Selected areas of the root have been worked and polished while other portions retain their natural surface.
