An authentic piece of traditional Japanese domestic heritage: a Showa-era tabletop sewing box tansu, traditionally known in Japan as a \"Haribako\" (針箱) or \"Hari-yamanuki Tansu\" (針山付き箪笥). Crafted from natural wood and veneer, this compact sewing cabinet features an elevated pin cushion post, decorative patterned drawer lining, a clever secret compartment, and includes a bonus set of vintage sewing accessories (250g).
[THE HISTORY & TRADITION OF JAPANESE HARIBAKO]Historically, every Japanese home maintained a dedicated \"Haribako\" (sewing box). During the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa periods, a wooden sewing tansu was an essential bridal dowry item (Yuiyounin) passed down through generations.
- Integrated Pin Cushion (Kuke-dai / Hari-yama): The distinctive vertical arm holds a plush fabric pin cushion at comfortable working height, allowing seamstresses to pin fabric while seated on tatami mats.- Secret Drawer (Kakushi-dashi / 隠し引き出し): Features a hidden secret compartment concealed directly behind the 3rd lower drawer space—traditionally used by Japanese homemakers to safely store secret savings (Navel money / Heshokuri), personal seals (Hanko), or precious family heirlooms.- Decorative Interior & Exterior Accents: Drawers are lined with classic red-and-cream geometric folk patterns, accompanied by traditional ring pull handles and decorative side/base band accents.
