Vintage Kenwood KR-5340 Two-Four Quadraphonic AM/FM Receiver - Read For Sale

Offered here is a vintage Kenwood KR-5340 \"Two-Four\" AM/FM stereo and quadraphonic receiver from the early 1970s. This is one of Kenwood\'s period four-channel receivers, combining conventional 2-channel stereo operation with SQ, RM and discrete 4-channel capability.

The receiver is in very good overall cosmetic condition for its age. The brushed-metal faceplate, illuminated tuning dial, controls and wood side panels present especially well.

The internal tuning flywheel has distorted/bulged with age. As the flywheel rotates, the enlarged area contacts the surrounding mechanism once during each revolution.

Tuning still functions and the dial can be moved through its range, but the tuning control becomes noticeably harder to turn at the point where the flywheel makes contact and requires some additional force to move past that position.

The affected flywheel is shown in the listing photographs. This is a known mechanical defect and the tuning mechanism should be considered in need of future service or repair. No claim is being made that this is a simple adjustment.

Introduced during the early-1970s quadraphonic audio era, the KR-5340 was part of Kenwood\'s \"Two-Four\" receiver series. Four internal power amplifier channels allow operation as a true 4-channel receiver, while the amplifier sections are combined in conventional 2-channel mode for greater stereo output.

Cosmetic condition is very good for its age. The faceplate is particularly attractive, with clean controls, a well-presenting tuning display and intact wood side panels. Normal light signs of age and prior use may be present.

The primary issue is the distorted tuning flywheel described above. Tuning remains operational, but the control binds once during each flywheel revolution and requires additional effort to move past that point.
