Beautiful and substantial vintage Mexican cast plaster sculpture depicting Pauline Borghese as Venus Victrix, after the famous Neoclassical sculpture by Antonio Canova.
The reclining female figure rests on an ornate classical couch with flowing drapery, decorative scrollwork and floral details. She holds the traditional apple associated with Venus Victrix. The piece is marked “MEXICO” on the back/base.

This is a large, heavy decorative piece with wonderful Old World / Grand Tour / Neoclassical character.
Condition: Vintage pre-owned condition with significant age and surface wear. There is extensive flaking and loss to the painted finish, scratches, chips, discoloration and other wear throughout. There is a visible crack around the neck area. The sculpture remains intact. The underside is hollow with a casting opening, consistent with its plaster construction. Please review all photographs carefully for the exact condition.
No attempt has been made to repaint or restore the sculpture. It is being sold as found.
