Vintage Naomi and Her Daughter's in law Sam Alcock & CO. Pitcher Biblical Scene:
$99.99

This is an antique Victorian English parian ware jug by Samuel Alcock & Co. with relief-moulded figures of Naomi and her daughters-in-law.
Decorative jug/pitcher featuring a biblical scene of Naomi with her daughters-in-law, Ruth and Orpah, from the Book of Ruth in the Old Testament. This piece has a lovely religious folk-art style scene and would make a meaningful display item for collectors of biblical decor, Christian collectibles, religious pottery, or vintage decorative pitchers. The scene represents the emotional moment after Naomi’s sons have died, when her daughters-in-law must decide whether to return to Moab or remain with her. Ruth famously stays with Naomi, making this a special piece for anyone who loves the story of Ruth and Naomi.Great for display on a shelf, hutch, bookcase, prayer room, church office, Bible study space, or vintage religious collection. This jug is executed in unglazed parian porcelain, a refined ceramic developed to imitate carved white marble. The figures are modeled in high relief and accented with a soft lilac tint, achieved through pigment fired directly into the parian body rather than surface paint. The jug displays a classical ovoid form with a single applied handle, defined pouring spout, and scalloped molded base. The relief figures are hand-applied, giving depth and clarity to the drapery and facial details. The base is clearly marked with the impressed Samuel Alcock & Co. / Patent mark, British Registration Diamond showing the date of April 21,1847. Design / Pattern No. 156, confirming original Mid-Victorian production. A special piece indeed!
