Up for sale is a vintage, pre-war Lionel Lines No. 1688 O-gauge streamlined "Torpedo" steam locomotive body and motor. This classic Art Deco piece features a gunmetal/silver die-cast shell and carries the authentic "Lionel 027" metal badge on the underside.
CONDITION: Being sold strictly AS-IS / UNTESTED
Please note the following mechanical and cosmetic details:
• Motor & Gears: The center drive system is structurally excellent. The gears show clean, sharp teeth with no visible stripping or severe corrosion. The "Lionel 027" badge is intact and highly legible.
• Rear Wheel Assembly: The rear 2-wheel trailing truck bracket is twisted out of alignment but remains securely attached via its original pivot screw. It looks very salvageable with straightforward straightening.
• Front Pilot Truck: The front small guide wheels and pivot arm are intact, straight, and properly seated on the axle pin.
• Missing Parts: The locomotive is currently untested and is missing its bottom track pickup/collector rollers.
• Cosmetic State: The die-cast body is structurally solid with no major cracks or zinc rot. It displays typical vintage paint wear, surface scratches, and dust consistent with its age.
No tender, track, or original boxes are included. Thanks to the crisp gears and screw-on truck design, this is an excellent candidate for a straightforward restoration or a great source of clean pre-war parts!
