Up for sale is a vintage Proto 1424 Auto Body Finishing and Bumping Hammer with its original wood handle. Known for exceptional USA-forged steel quality, this dual-headed sheet metal tool features one round face and one square face. It is highly sought after by vintage tool collectors, auto body restoration specialists, and classic car enthusiasts alike.
Condition Notes (Please Read Before offerding):
• Hammer Head: The forged steel head is in solid, functional condition with clear "PROTO 1424" branding stamped cleanly on the side. The striking faces show typical cosmetic surface wear, minor nicks, and shop patina from genuine vintage workshop use, but have no major structural gouges or compromises.
• Handle: The original wood handle has been tightly wrapped in red electrical/duct tape around the neck. The tape is older and showing wear. Please assume that the wood handle has typical hairline splits, cracks, or fractures underneath the tape. The head feels securely attached to the wood core, but this item is being sold strictly AS-IS. It is an ideal piece for display, a dedicated tool restoration project, or a candidate to be re-handled.
