Vintage Canadian military ceremonial wool cape associated with The Queen’s York Rangers (1st American Regiment).
Constructed in black wool with a striking bright scarlet/red satin-style lining. The cape has a traditional military collar, decorative metal neck chain/clasp, and multiple silver-tone regimental buttons.
The button faces bear Queen’s Rangers / 1st American Regiment insignia. The backs of the buttons are marked W. Scully Ltd Montreal, the historic Canadian military insignia and uniform-accessory manufacturer.
Inside the red lining is an old handwritten identification that appears to include “M.A. Stevens” along with additional writing resembling “QY RANG…”. The handwriting is included as part of the garment’s provenance but has not been independently tied to a specific servicemember.
This appears to be a genuine Canadian regimental ceremonial/mess-style cape rather than a modern costume piece. Exact date of manufacture, rank association, and specific order of dress have not been confirmed.
