Up for sale is this serviced Vintage Sony SLV-R5UC Prosumer HiFi Super VHS (SVHS) Recorder. This unit is in EXCELLENT cosmetic condition and includes the original working remote and manual as well! Cosmetically, the unit itself has minor wear to the main unit. The facia, inner panel, and screen lens have minor signs of wear present, such as minor scratches or stains, and there are a few scratches to the top cover. The wood trim has only minor wear with no moisture damage or peeling veneer. The remote is in good shape and seems to work correctly, but the plastic piece that clips the flap to the remote body is broken off. This doesn\'t affect operation. Please see all photos carefully to see exact condition.
It plays very well with smooth play, FF, REW, and ejecting & loading of tapes. Unfortunately, despite all of the service performed, there is still a noticeable color bleed visible which is very common with this model. PLEASE SEE VIDEO in the listing for a look at the picture! I\'ve been told this issue can be easily corrected using software for digitizing tapes or certain external upscalers. Despite the color bleed, it still runs smoothly and otherwise works great! Please understand this issue and adjust expectations before buying!
I have serviced this unit to ensure it functions as close to it was when it was new... here\'s a list of everything I did:
- Replaced old and cracked blue gear with brand new OEM quality part.
- Replaced ALL capacitors on power supply with new Rubicon/Panasonic parts.
- Replaced 2 SMD transistors in power supply which had become heat dependent.
- Replaced entire HiFi board (ruined from leaky capacitors) with NOS board with good caps.
- Replaced a few bad capacitors on drum preamp board, multi-function board, and Y chroma board.
- Cleaned off old grease from around tape transport & tape guides and added fresh lubricants.
- Cleaned unit inside and out to ensure a fresh open box condition is preserved.
- Fully inspected all functions and tested unit for many hours to ensure functionality.
This VCR is a professional workhorse from the only company who really made great decks, SONY. It will perform perfectly for archiving old home movies, playing back VHS Music content, or just enjoying old VHS movie favorites! I have put a ton of work into this one, and it is ready for the next decade of use!
