For sale is an authentic, vintage Stanley Gage No. G4 self-setting smooth bottom hand plane, manufactured in New Britain, Conn., U.S.A. between 1924 and 1930. This early Type 2 model features the highly advanced, proprietary Gage integrated two-piece carriage mechanism and its original 2-inch cutting iron. Unlike traditional Bailey planes, this self-setting system relies on its original built-in clamping plate and locking mechanism, making it 100% structurally complete and fully operational. The main cast-iron sole is flat and completely free of any cracks, chips, or weld repairs around the critical mouth area. It exhibits excellent original black japanning with beautiful vintage rosewood handles that remain solid. Shows standard age-appropriate patina and minor superficial surface tarnish, serving as an exceptional collector piece or an elite user plane ready for fine woodworking.
