Framed display centered on an early VAW-115 squadron patch and an original sailor’s snapshot from the carrier fleet.
VAW-115 was established 20 April 1967 flying the E-2A Hawkeye, formed when VAW-11 — the “Early Elevens,” the Navy’s largest carrier-based squadron — was broken up into six individual squadrons. This patch carries the parent squadron’s black dragon insignia, which the new unit retained in its early years.
Patch: period Japanese/Asian-market construction — raw twill reverse with no plastic or heat-seal backing, silver merrowed edge, separately applied banner. Honest age wear and thread loss. Not a reproduction.
Snapshot: original period photo of a sailor asleep in the catwalk safety net. Pencil caption on the reverse in his own hand: “a hard day working out all deck — need my beauty sleep.”
Also includes a black-and-white print of AD Skyraiders. Black wood frame, approx. 8x10. Ready to hang.
Display sold AS IS. Please carefully view pictures before purchase.
