They were portrayed exclusively as an oppressed proletariat and as victims of "American imperialism" and genocide.Discrediting the USA: The primary goal of Soviet media (such as the *Vremya* news program and the newspapers *Pravda* and *Izvestia*) was to expose the hypocrisy of American democracy. To any Western accusations regarding human rights violations in the USSR (such as the Gulag or political repressions), Soviet propaganda would respond with the classic "And you lynch African Americans" tactic, alongside references to the extermination of Native Americans and the reservation system.Alongside the political context, a genuine cult of the romanticized Native American existed in the USSR. The Soviet person sincerely sympathized with Native Americans; however, this sympathy was based on fictional portrayals rather than actual knowledge of the contemporary lives of Indigenous Americans.
