Up for sale is a uniquely historic, collectible piece of mid-century political ephemera. This is the 1961 6th Edition of The Congressional Club Cook Book, published in Washington D.C. This volume compiles favorite national and international recipes from political elites, including U.S. Presidents, First Ladies, and foreign embassies.This highly collectible volume features a printed opening Foreword written by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, making it a wonderful addition to any Kennedy-era or White House collection. What makes this specific copy an incredible piece of history is a prominent vintage ink presentation inscription on the front flyleaf page from a legendary political figure,

\"Historical Significance:

The signature belongs to legendary, long-serving Republican U.S. Representative H.R. Gross of Iowa (serving from 1949–1975) and his wife, Hazel. Known as the \"Watchdog of the Treasury,\" Gross was one of the most distinct fiscal conservatives in House history. The 1965 inscription likely commemorates Gross\'s landmark re-election to his 9th consecutive term in Congress.

Binding: The inner front hinge and inner back hinge are both split down the paper seam, exposing the underlying netting/glue (see photos). The cover remains attached but handle delicately.

Foreword & Inscribed Pages: The Jacqueline Kennedy foreword page is clean, crisp, and beautifully preserved. The ink signature and inscription by Congressman Gross are bold, clear, and unsmudged.

• Cover: Bright yellow boards with crisp graphics. Minor wear to the corners and spine edges consistent with age.

Interior: Pages are generally clean and bright. There is a small, faint moisture mark at the very bottom inner corner of the early pages near the split hinge (does not affect readability or touch any text). There is a folded tear on the outer edge on The Congressional Club picture page. No interior cooking stains or missing pages detected.

Text Block / Pages:

There is clear evidence of historical moisture exposure. The bottom edges of the text block show a wavy texture and a light water stain/tide-mark across the center section of the pages (visible when the book is closed).

Interior & Signatures:

The Jacqueline Kennedy foreword page and the Congressman H.R. Gross signature/inscription page remain clear, bold, unsmudged, and fully legible. No pages are stuck together, and there are no heavy kitchen grease stains.
