For sale: Rare complete set of 6 sterling silver iced tea spoons from Occupied Japan, c. 1946-1952.
PROVENANCE: Made by Osaka Shoten Co Ltd and sold at the U.S. Naval Supply Depot in Sasebo, Japan. Original foil label still on box reads “OSAKA SHOTEN CO LTD / U.S. NAVAL SUPPLY DEPOT / SASEBO”. Also includes original “MADE IN JAPAN” sticker and “NSA-24” inventory tag. This is a genuine souvenir purchased by U.S. military personnel stationed in Japan after WWII.
DETAILS:
- 6 long-handled spoons, approx 9” long
- Bamboo-style handles with individual dangling charms: Buddha, koi fish, hand fan, leaf, etc.
- Cherry blossom/sakura bowls with engraved
- Original fitted grey faux-alligator case with navy blue velvet lining
CONDITION: Excellent vintage condition. Light tarnish/patina present - I have not polished to preserve collector value. Box shows age-appropriate wear but hinges and clasp work. No bends, breaks, or missing charms. Charms move freely.
HALLMARKS “Marked STERLING .950 on handles” or “Unmarked but acid tested sterling”]. These are solid silver, not silverplate.
Perfect for collectors of Occupied Japan, U.S. Naval militaria, sterling flatware, or Japanese charm spoons. Much harder to find with the original Sasebo Naval Depot label intact.
