WWII A2 Style Jacket with research (READ DESCRIPTION) For Sale

Please Read!!!!I purchased this jacket back in 2020 from baystate militaria. I was informed the liner and cuffs were replaced at some point in its life but when I’m not too sure. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out! Please see photos for condition
Donald Eugene Hiller was born on June 27th 1924. During his younger days he helped his father with his masonry company. During his senior year of high school he registered for the draft in 1942 and less than a year later he joined the (USAAC) United States Army Air Corps he doin said goodbye to his parents and his younger sister named Maggie and left to be a Aviation Cadet. Through flight school and training he left as a skilled navigator for the C-46 Commando. Soon after he arrived in the pacific with the CBI where he spent from spring of 1944 to spring of 1945. He was later reassigned back to the states where he would spend his time training new recruits on navigation in the C-46D. On a routine flight from Fort Hood Texas to Fort Bennington Georgia June 14th 1945 things turned from bad to worse. While serving as a Navigator in the C-46D 2nd Lt. Hiller and the crew experienced intense weather while they passed over the missippi river which later caused the C-46D to crash in the fields near Vicksburg National Park due to being struck by lightning, out of the 18 passengers and crew, 17 died. The one sergeant who survived the crash was left paralyzed for the rest of his life. On June 25th just 2 days before his 21st birthday his parents received the news about the crash. On July 3rd, 1945 his remains where sent back to his hometown of Fresno California where he was buried with full military honors at Belmont National Cemetery. Oddly enough this crash would result in the first military deaths in the fields of Vicksburg since the battle there in the spring of 1863.
