Beautiful antique edition of Whittier’s Poems by John Greenleaf Whittier, published in Chicago by M.A. Donohue & Co. Features an unusual richly textured crocodile/alligator-pattern decorative binding, gilt cover decoration, portrait frontispiece of Whittier, and striking red page edges.This copy also has wonderful provenance, with an original handwritten gift inscription dated December 1918 on the front endpaper. The inscription provides a firm indication that this copy was in existence by 1918, although the book itself does not show a publication date in the pages photographed.A very attractive little antique poetry volume with lots of character. Vintage wear is present to the binding, edges and corners, along with the handwritten inscriptions shown. Please see all photos for exact condition.
