This is an authentic, charming example of late 20th-century American country folk art. The piece features a stylized barnyard rooster silhouette mounted on a multi-tiered, hand-turned geometric pedestal base.Constructed in a classic "bench-made" cottage industry style, the body of the rooster is a flat-back 2D plank cutout displaying prominent bandsaw ripple textures on the reverse side. The front is beautifully hand-painted with a warm, distressed cream and olive wash, accented by a bold red comb and wattle.
The whimsical pedestal stand is composed of stacked, lathe-turned shapes—including a central white egg form sandwiched between two red rings—resting securely on a square blue block base.The underside of the base is heavily documented, featuring a hand-carved, geometric clock-dial/compass rose maker's mark that acts as an alignment notch system for the pedestal assembly. Overlaid across the wood grain is the distinct, hand-written cursive ink signature of the artisan, "H. Cooper."
