By Bill Jarvis

A Decorated Veteran and Avid Fly Fisherman

Contains 90 original patterns by the author

Illustrated in full color, with materials for each pattern

[ FEATURES AND DETAILS... ]

This manuscript came from the Maryland estate of William \"Bill\" Jarvis after his passing in 2011. It contains numerous anecdotes of his family, and of growing up in Maine, with a bit of history behind some of the flies he designed. The book is filled from cover to cover, though some pages were intentionally left blank between patterns.

There are 90 patterns in total, all designed by Bill Jarvis with the exception of the very first one pictured in the book--the \"Jarvis Special\"--which he says was designed by his father. (See the story.) Many of the flies are named after his wife, children, grandchildren, friends, or places from his childhood fishing memories in Maine.

does not allow 90 photos in a listing. But all 90 patterns are like the ones you see pictured: a full page, color illustration, \"recipe\" for the fly, and sometimes a design date and/or anecdote as well.

Bill learned fly tying from his father. Most of the 90 patterns in his book are dated--with dates ranging from 1940s, through \'50s, \'60s, \'70s ... with the latest being \"2002.\" So he designed and tied his own flies for nearly 60 years. At the end of the book is a note from his son Bill, Jr. thanking \"Dad\" for teaching him to also enjoy fly fishing and fly tying.

Mr. Jarvis served more than 30 years in the U.S. Navy, including two tours in Vietnam as a Seebee. In one of the anecdotes in the book, he mentions serving aboard the USS LST 983--a tank-landing ship--in the 1950s. During his career, he earned 17 military awards and medals, plus an additional life-saving medal for saving a young girl from drowning.
