The Amasa Howe Letter A machine shown (serial number 91100) was made in the mid 1860s and represents a typical Genuine Howe machine. On the front of the over arm is cast NEW YORK, USA. and on the back "I SERVE"- I TIRE NOT.
The machine also has inlays of a mother of pearl pattern.
This antique sewing machine is mounted to it's original treadle pedal-driven mechanism and wooden cover that folds out into a table.
The machine and treadle are both in beautiful condition. The treadle pedal pumps smoothly and spins the belt. The belt is a bit loose so it may need some work to tighten it to operate the sewing machine. The machine does seem to work as the needle moves up and down but I have not personally used it so I can't say for sure.
I can send a video of the machine operating if requested! Local pickup in Rochester only as this is very heavy but I'd be willing to look into freight shipping to serious buyers.
