The company was established no later than the early 1920s. A 1924 Editor & Publisher listing shows American Typesetting Corporation, Chicago among customers using Intertype composing equipment.
By 1930, it was sufficiently established to publish its own major specimen book:
The Book of Specimens of the American Typesetting Corporation
It advertised itself as serving printers, publishers and advertisers, offering typefaces, rules, ornaments, borders and other typographic material.
