This is the famous “Ivy Pikachu” artwork illustrated by Keiji Kinebuchi, one of the most recognizable early Japanese Pokémon promo designs.

The original glossy Ivy Pikachu was distributed with the November 1996 issue of CoroCoro Comic, just before the release of the first Japanese Pokémon TCG set. This non-glossy / matte version was released shortly afterward with the booklet Easily Understand How to Play Pokémon Cards on November 30, 1996. Unlike the original glossy CoroCoro version, which famously carries the incorrect illustrator credit “Ken Sugimori,” this version correctly credits Keiji Kinebuchi.
