Hand-coloured borders clearly separate core territories: Polish Crown lands, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Ukraine, Volhynia, Podolia and Mazovia.Thousands of towns, rivers, forests and fortresses are labelled across the sheet, topped with an ornate Baroque allegorical title cartouche in the upper left, while multiple distance scales are printed top-right. It was compiled from cross-border European geographic survey records.Published while the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth remained a major regional power, it was the most widely circulated and authoritative printed map of Eastern Europe in the 1600s, perfectly recording the full pre-partition borders of the Commonwealth.
