This 1802 volume presents twelve lectures covering mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, electricity, optics, magnetism, astronomy, and related experimental sciences.
Its principal attraction lies in thesuite of finely engraved copperplates, which depict scientific instruments and demonstrations of the period: Leyden jars, hydrostatic balances, fire engines, chemical furnaces, prisms and optical experiments, along with astronomical diagrams illustrating Saturn, Jupiter, and planetary motion. These plates provide a vivid visual record of how scientific knowledge was taught, demonstrated, and understood at the turn of the nineteenth century.
Binding & Physical Description:
Bound in early twentieth-century half-calf over marbled boards, with gilt spine label. The binding is sound and stable, joints firm, and the volume remains solid and well-preserved.
Condition:
Text and plates show light foxing and toning consistent with age, with occasional mild offsetting to a few plates. The engraved plates retainstrong, crisp impressionswith excellent detail. An old library stamp (“Bibliotheca Calssica”) appears on the title page but does not affect readability. Complete with all plates and text.
