c.1857 Issue 3c Dull Red George Washington (Scott #26, Type III) tied on cover to Mr. Edward L. Base in New Haven, Connecticut. The pencil notations on the reverse attribute this stamp as originating from Plate No. 10. Neat placement of the stamp with a light circular postmark strike. Excellent addition for collectors of the 1851-1861 classic US issues or Connecticut postal history.
