Plates that start the book include an engraving of Sir Walter Scott, and a vignette title page. Pictorial endpapers, gilt on three page edges, tissue-protected plates throughout. There is light foxing on the thick paper plates, lightly age-toned regular book pages. 840 clean and solidly bound pages, no interior marks.
