1862 $2 *RARE Fr 41c Series 1 US Note* ONLY 2 KNOWN OF SERIES 1 *Civil War Era* For Sale

Up for sale is one of the earliest 1862 notes printed. This is the Fr 41c (Type 2 Treasury Seal) which was only printed in Series 1-2. Currently there are only 9 known 41c notes in the population report. This is the coveted Series 1, the very first printing. I can find only two other examples of a Series 1, so this would be one of only three known. This is one of the first notes of this design and of any US currency. The two other Series 1 examples are VF and have sold for $5,400 and $6,000 in 2018 and 2020. A VG example of a Series 2 sold for $1,100. This is your chance to pick up this coveted example at a fraction of the cost of other Series 1 notes.
This 1862 series is interesting as it was brought about by the Civil War. People did not trust paper money as it was easy to counterfeit and there were lots of broken banks that took people\'s money then shut down and ran. But the Civil War caused hoarding and a shortage of coinage in circulation. The US government had to start producing paper money to bolster the economy. This note was very likely in the pocket of a Civil War soldier in battles.
This note grades VG in my opinion. It shows significant circulation and has a little hole in the center, but is still intact and has good color on the design. These 1862 notes are graded more liberally than later issues as these first notes were printed on much thinner, lower quality paper and did not wear well in circulation. PMG seems to grade notes similar to this one in VG-10 to Fine 12. I would put this at around VG-10 based on other certified notes. I have included examples in the last few pictures of notes in similar condition in Fine 12 or a comment-free VG-10 holder. Those notes are not included but just for comparison.
