1862(B) British India Rupee – Queen Victoria – PCGS AU55
A silver rupee from the first years of direct British Crown rule in India, struck at the Bombay Mint and certified About Uncirculated by PCGS. After the Crown took over from the East India Company in 1858, new rupees carried Queen Victoria\'s crowned portrait with the legend VICTORIA QUEEN.
A collector\'s detail
The 1862 date was kept on rupee dies for more than a decade, so specialists identify each die pairing by its catalogue number. PCGS has attributed this coin as SW-4.57a and the Bombay (B) mint. It sits in a PCGS holder.
About the grade
AU55 means only light wear on the highest points of the portrait and the wreath. Most of the fine detail remains, under an even gray-gold toning. See the photos for the actual coin.
