1880s Flat Barrel Baseball Bat Antique 19th Century Hartwell Bros Rare Town Hall For Sale

Rare 19th Century “Flat bat” branded Hartwell Brothers Hictory Co. Hartwell Brothers originated in Delphios Ohio in 1865. Their woodworking shop specialized in making axe handles, hammer handles and baseball bats. This type of bat was legal in the late 19th century and would be primarily used for bunting. Has a rounded mushroom knob and lathe marks. The dimensions are 30.5” & 30 oz. The Hartwell logo is difficult to make out, but looks similar to the example included in the last slide. The logo on this bat is an earlier variant with a much simpler look and thinner “H”. Along with the Hartwell Hickory logo, it also includes the letters NKP & AAW on each side. From my research, NKP stands for the Nickel Plate Railroad that operated through Delphios Ohio starting in 1881. I was not able to pinpoint what the “AAW” stands for, but I was thinking something along the lines of “Athletic Association”. This probably means this bat was used by a railroad industrial league team in the 1880s/1890s. Shows signs of game use. Will be shipped to you protected via FedEx. Thanks for looking!
