This is an antique Victorian-era hardcover copy of The Works of Flavius Josephus, specifically an affordable household or trade edition from the late 19th century (c. 1880s). Great collectors item, all aged pages are legible. Original cover with a couple of pages separating.
Inner cover is inscribed by Dr. J R Westbrook, the person who was originally gifting this book in 1887 (see photos). This book was left to me by my Uncle, who lived in Tennessee. The Dr. J R Westbrook mentioned might possibly have been a physician in Newbern TN at that time who was a distinguished and who practiced medicine and served directly under the cavalry command of General Nathan Bedford Forrest in the Civil War.
