Rare original 1883 complete 2 volume set of \"Lester\'s History of the United States. Illustrated in its Five Great Periods: Colonization, Consolidation, Development, Achievement, Advancement.\" The books are overall in very good condition with some minor signs of wear and age. The covers have some light wear with some dulling and rubbing to the gilt of the 1st volume. One of the volumes has an inch or so of cracking towards the top of the front interior hinge, but the bindings are both still good and sound. There are some neatly written period name inscriptions to the front endpapers. The interiors are lightly toned from age but are mostly clean with the very occasional page with a light bit of foxing or minor grubby mark. Along with that there may be the very occasional page with some kind of other minor imperfection such as minor stain or marking, creased page corner, minor interior crack, tiny chip or tear, etc.Generally though, it\'s a nice set. The books measure approximately 9 3/8 inches by 6 inches. Volume One is 482 pages long and Volume Two is 480+144 pages. There is only a half title page bound into the second volume as issued by the publisher. The set is illustrated with numerous black and white illustrations.
