$208.00
It seems we have the 1884 hand-writing ofthe “Founder” of St. Louis baseball, the “papa” of Daughter Edith Griswold. Itis found inside a rare 1867 book with the name Merritt W. Griswold foil-stampedon the cover. He is arguably the founder of St Louis baseball, for in Richard Peterson\'sSt. Louis Baseball Reader, you may find these words, “I found a letter from a man named Merritt W.Griswold, reprinted in Richard Peterson\'sSt. Louis Baseball Reader, inwhich Griswoldclaims to have broughtthe game to St. Louis in 1859. In this letter, Griswold tells how hefirst published the rules of the game [see image], along with a diagram [seeimage] of the playing field and the positions of the players, in the MissouriDemocrat newspaper in the winter of 1859/60. He claims that at thesame time he was organizing a baseball club.”
