Original late-19th-century Dr. Kilmer’s Female Remedy advertising trade card, dating to approximately the 1890s. Produced for Dr. Kilmer & Co. of Binghamton, New York, this colorful Victorian chromolithograph depicts women and a young girl with her doll relaxing on a veranda overlooking a scenic mountain landscape.
The detailed imagery—including period clothing, furnishings, a tennis lawn and distant transportation—makes this an especially attractive example of early American patent-medicine advertising. It would make an interesting addition to a collection of Victorian ephemera, antique medical advertising, women’s history or Binghamton, New York memorabilia. The illustrated front would also display beautifully in a small frame.
The front retains strong color and remains attractive overall. Condition issues include a noticeable area of surface loss near the center-left portion of the image, wear and paper loss around the lower-left corner, and general edge and corner wear consistent with age.
The card appears to have once been mounted in a Victorian scrapbook. The reverse has extensive paper residue and surface loss from its removal, leaving only portions of the original printed advertisement visible. Please do not expect the reverse text to be complete or fully readable.
