1894 Coney Island/Sheepshead Bay Program - Henry of Navarre, Domino, Clifford For Sale

Here is simply one of the best old horse racing programs you will ever find. This is from August 25, 1894 at Coney Island Jockey Club/Sheepshead Bay Racetrack in New York. The feature race was the $65,000 Futurity Stakes, which would be like $2.5 million today. The winner of that race was The Butterflies (listed just as Butterflies), who was undefeated as a 2yo and was ridden by the great Hall of Famer jockey Fred Taral. And that\'s not even close to the most impressive thing about this program, as the second race was won by eventual 1895 Kentucky Derby winner Halma. Then the third race, the Dolphin Stakes was won by Henry of Navarre, a Hall of Famer and one of the the most legendary horses ever who was also the Horse of the Year for 1894 and 1895. Then the fifth race was the Fall Handicap, which was won by champion filly Lady Violet and also included the amazing mare Correction, who is still honored with a stakes race at Aqueduct. Also entered in that race was the Hall of Famers Domino and Clifford, who were both scratched. There are numerous other top horses on this program as well, along with some amazing and colorful artwork by Henry Stull (I think). There are two small tears at the top and a bit of chipping and a small piece of tape but this has never been folded. Really a gem of a program.
