Good condition. Minor wear to front and rear boards. Edges are scuffed and some bumping to tips. Gilt on top fore edges. Spines show minor scuffing, but are still fully legible and gilt flour de lis is intact. Marbling to boards as well as front and rear pastedowns and flyleafs. Bookplate for Mary S. Murphy on front pastedown of each volume. Permanent silk bookmark in each volume. Minor toning and scattered age-staining throughout textblocks. Please see photos.
George Putnam Upton (1834-1919) was an American journalist and author. In 1862, he became the music critic for the Chicago Tribune and became the senior editor at the Tribune in 1881 until 1905. This listing includes three of Upton\'s works on music: The Standard Oratorios, The Standard Symphonies, and The Standard Cantatas. Although these volumes were not originally published as a set, the items in this listing have been uniformly bound.
