The signature and “Dixondale, Va.” on this leaf appear to be a printed facsimile rather than a hand-signed autograph.The Clansman is historically significant as the novel that became a principal source for D. W. Griffith’s 1915 film The Birth of a Nation. The book is also notable as a controversial example of early 20th-century literature depicting Reconstruction and the Ku Klux Klan.Original red cloth hardcover with gilt lettering and decoration. Antique condition with expected wear for a book more than 120 years old. Red cloth shows rubbing, fading, spots/staining, edge wear, and fraying at corners and spine ends. Pages have age toning and some discoloration. Front hinge is cracked/loose with binding visible, but the book remains together. Previous pencil markings are present. No dust jacket.
