It makes excellent gun stocks because of the small pores and great turning properties. The soil, mineral content and environment are unique to the mountainous region in Turkey and some surrounding countries and create the beautiful qualities found in the grain. Typically cut from very old logs, it is a very hard wood to cut and work but has great variety, color and contrast in grain. Micro pores in the wood match grain patterns, creating additional texture if you look closely. Highly figured Turkish is extremely pricey!
