Today for sale we have an original piece of 1912 antique sheet music, The Wreck of the Titanic, a descriptive piano composition by Jeanette Forrest, published the same year as the disaster by the McKinley Music Company and Frank K. Root and Company of Chicago and New York, with a copyright date of MCMXII. The cover carries the well known illustration of the great liner beside the iceberg with lifeboats pulling away on a heavy sea. Inside, the composition is arranged as a descriptive piece with titled passages that follow the voyage from the boarding whistle through the calm sailing and on to the wreck, and the back page carries period advertising for other Root and McKinley songs. The piece appears complete with all pages present.
Condition is worn and offered honestly. The paper is toned and soiled throughout with heavy creasing and crackling, and the edges and corners show chips, small tears, and areas of loss, most noticeable along the cover margins. Despite the wear the printing stays clear and the sheet displays well as a genuine artifact of the Titanic year.
A collectible piece of 1912 Titanic history for a memorabilia or antique sheet music collector.
