The Whitehead & Hoag Company of New Jersey was organized in 1892. There were several hundred persons employed by the company in the manufacture and sale of buttons, badges, banners, flags, and an almost infinite variety of advertising novelties in celluloid, metal, ribbons, silk and woven fabrics (all collected today). Mr. Benjamin S. Whitehead was the president and Mr. Chester R. Hoag, the vice president. The company insisted on making a top-quality product and refused to advertise any other way than on their own product. It was eventually sold to Bastian Brothers and the factory was closed in 1959.
