This 1917-D Standing Liberty quarter is an appealing early example of this beautiful American silver coin design, authenticated by PCGS as Genuine, Cleaned–VF Detail, Type 2. It displays bright silver-gray surfaces with substantial remaining design detail. The past cleaning is clearly disclosed on the PCGS label.
Liberty’s standing figure remains well outlined, with visible folds in the drapery, detail in the shield, and a clearly recognizable olive branch. The surrounding stars and IN GOD WE TRUST lettering remain distinct, while the 1917 date and small “D” mintmark identify this historic Denver Mint issue.
The reverse features a boldly outlined eagle in flight, with visible feather detail throughout the wings. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and QUARTER DOLLAR remain readily readable, and the three stars beneath the eagle clearly distinguish the Type 2 reverse.
The 1917 date marks an important transition in the Standing Liberty quarter series. During that year, the design was revised to add chain mail to Liberty’s torso and reposition the eagle, with three stars placed beneath it. This coin represents the first year of that revised Type 2 design, struck during the year the United States entered World War I.
