Beautiful 1920's Spalding MO Babe Ruth "Home Run Special" baseball glove.
This glove is nearly 100 years old. The leather on this glove is soft, smooth and pliable. The labeling on the front is light but readable. The inside lining is smooth and very soft. The leather piping is excellent. The lacing appears to be original and is excellent. The glove measures 9 1/4 x 9 1/4 inches and my medium size hand fits with room to spare. Has a nice Spalding cloth label and brass button. Has a small name written on the wrist strap and has a name neatly inscribed into the back of thumb (A. Runk). This is a correct hand lefty glove. Very nice overall condition.
The Spalding Babe Ruth "Home Run Special" glove was manufactured beginning in 1927.
Babe Ruth played from 1914-35 (22 seasons). Despite being the greatest player in MLB history, preposterously he won only one MVP award. On May 25th 1935 he hit 3 home runs as a member of the Boston Braves. The last home run cleared the roof in Forbes Field in Pittsburgh and ended up being the longest home run ever hit there. That was the Babe's last home run. He retired 5 days later.
