1932 Paraguay Graf Zeppelin Airmail Cover – 1st South American Flight (1. SAF) to Amsterdam, Holland
Up for sale is a genuine, commercially used 1930s Zeppelin flight cover sent from Paraguay to the Netherlands via the Syndicato Condor and Graf Zeppelin transatlantic airmail network. This historical piece represents a textbook example of early international airship mail.
Item Details:
- Flight: 1932 First South American Flight (1. SAF) – Sieger #138 / Michel #231.
- Origin: Asunción, Paraguay.
- Destination: Amsterdam, Holanda (addressed to N.V. Handel Mij. F. Krauch & Co.).
- Franking: Features 1932 Paraguayan overprinted Graf Zeppelin airmail stamps, including the iconic triangular issue (Scott #C74-C78 group) and the 50c rectangular issue (Scott #C79).
- Front Markings: Features a bold \"VIA AEREA / SERVICIO AEREO TRANSATLANTICO por Zeppelin\" cachet and a clear \"REPUBLICA DEL PARAGUAY\" registration box (No. 1883).
Reverse Side Markings (Backstamps):
- Transit Cachet: Highly legible oval \"SERVICIO AEREO / CONDOR - ZEPPELIN / TRANSATLANTICO\" stamp indicating the feeder network used to deliver the mail to the airship.
- Arrival Postmark: Crisp, circular Friedrichshafen landing stamp dated 29.3.32 (March 29, 1932), marking the exact day the LZ 127 airship completed its transatlantic voyage.
Condition Notes:
This cover is in stable, authentic vintage condition. It shows light, uniform age toning along the edges appropriate for its 94+ year history. There is a notable ink smudge/cancel smear on the lower-left front corner over the word \"Amsterdam\" (please see photos). No structural tears or folds. An excellent addition to any Zeppelinpost or South American postal history collection.
