Philco Model 80 cathedral radio, known as the Philco Jr., was built by the Philco Radio and Television Corporation of Philadelphia. Philco released it in September 1932 as the price leader of its lineup at $18.75 with tubes, one of the cheapest sets on the market at the time.Four-tube superheterodyne. Philco left out the IF stage to hit that price and made up the gain by adding regeneration to the second detector. There is no automatic volume control or tone control. Two knobs, a lighted dial behind the PHILCO JR. escutcheon, and the broadcast band.Walnut cabinet with the arched cathedral top and the shouldered grille cutouts. It stands about 14 1/2 inches tall, 12 inches wide, and 8 inches deep.The chassis has been restored and the radio plays AM stations. The dial lights up. It has a new power cord.Please look through all the photos before buying. This radio is over ninety years old and shows its history in the finish. Sold as is with no returns.
