1943 Esquire Varga Girl Calendar Complete 12 Month Alberto Vargas Pin-Up For Sale

Unlike individual calendar pages that were removed and saved separately, this example has survived as a complete 12-month calendar with its original red binding intact. All months from January through December are present, making this an especially appealing piece for collectors of Vargas artwork, vintage pin-up illustration, WWII-era Americana and original Esquire ephemera.

Each month features a different Varga Girl illustration accompanied by a period verse by Phil Stack. The reverse sides feature "Checkpayers"—a series of clever tricks, puzzles and bar bets introduced with the line "Good for One Free Drink at the Nearest Bar." These unusual period features add another wonderful element of 1940s social history to the calendar.

The calendar concludes with a particularly memorable December 1943 wartime illustration featuring a Varga Girl with a WAAC uniform and hat box, accompanied by a verse referencing the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps and the Axis.

Alberto Vargas (1896–1982) became one of America's most recognizable pin-up artists through his work for Esquire. His elegant Varga Girls became enormously popular during the World War II era and remain among the most recognizable examples of classic American pin-up illustration.

This complete 1943 calendar provides the opportunity to preserve the entire year's series together as originally issued rather than assembling a collection from individually removed pages.

From the Chuck Olson Collection, an extensive archive of vintage calendar art, advertising prints and decorative artwork assembled over more than four decades, with a particular focus on artwork produced during the golden age of American advertising calendars.
