Two 1945 volumes from The Harvard Books on Astronomy with an interesting Danner family association.
The Milky Way bears several personalized ownership/address stamps of Sara Kolb Danner (1894–1969), Santa Barbara, California, a recognized California painter, printmaker, and poet who exhibited widely and also studied at Stanford.
The companion volume, Fred L. Whipple’s Earth, Moon and Planets, bears the handwritten ownership name “Peter Danner.” Peter Kolb Danner was Sara Danner’s son.
The books were obtained together and are matching volumes from the same Harvard astronomy series and publisher. Both are 1945 issues. The dates and circumstances under which the Danners acquired the books are unknown.
Condition
Very Good. Tight bindings with clean, otherwise unmarked pages. Light shelf wear, rubbing, and edge/corner wear consistent with age. Some fading to spine lettering. The Milky Way has several Sara Kolb Danner ownership stamps; Earth, Moon and Planets has Peter Danner’s handwritten name. No dust jackets.
