Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle — Better Little Book #1407, published by Whitman Publishing Company of Racine, Wisconsin in 1946. Adapted from Edgar Rice Burroughs\' Tarzan, with interior line art reprinting Rex Maxon\'s classic daily newspaper-strip panels.
Condition — Good+ to Very Good−. The front cover is bright and fully intact, with strong color and a striking action scene of Tarzan and the lion. The spine is complete, straight, and uncracked: title, the \"Better Little Book\" logo, and the 1407 number are all crisp and fully legible. Edge and corner wear is present, with the colored paper layer rubbed through to the lighter stock at the head, foot, and corner tips. The rear cover shows light corner chipping and a small stain. Pages are uniformly toned, as is typical of the wartime-era pulp stock. Complete — no tape, no splitting, no missing pages.
Provenance. This copy comes directly from the personal collection of Ken Donnell, a Houston collector from the early Texas comic-fandom circle that gathered around the legendary Roy\'s Memory Shop.
A solid, honest copy of a 1940s Whitman Better Little Book — the pocket-sized hardcovers that put comic-strip heroes into the hands of a whole generation of kids.
